Wednesday Dance in Heaton

You can also dance on a weekly basis at the informal Heaton Dance group. This happens every Wednesday 7:15-9pm at the Heaton Community Centre.

The dance sessions at Heaton run every week apart from August Bank Holiday week and two weeks over the Christmas/New Year break.

A donation of £5 is requested, towards paying the rent, costs of sound equipment, candles, etc.

Directions to Heaton Community Centre are on the website at: www.heatoncc.org.uk/where-are-we. Look for the single storey former school building on the corner of Trewhitt Road and Addycombe Terrace.

The musical "warm-up" begins at 7.20 so people can stretch and warm up gently.

The "Wave" begins at 7.40 and ends by 9pm. It is usually based on the "Five Rhythms" musical structure: Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, and Stillness. The tempo will rise gradually towards a peak, before slowing and becoming quieter again as the dance moves towards Stillness.

Wear something light and easy to move freely in. Wear layers to keep warm, and cooler as the session heats up! Most people dance barefoot, some in trainers. Socks are too slippy.

Bring a bottle of water.

The Wednesday group is run on a voluntary, non-profit basis. Anyone who wishes to help, please arrive at 7pm to set up the room and sound system. Setting up the room involves moving tables, hanging curtains to keep out the glare from the external security lighting, lighting candles, etc. Help is also needed to put everything away at the end of the session.
